Do I really need therapy and how can therapy help me? I can usually deal with problems myself.

This is a very good question that most people ask themselves when thinking about therapy.  The unfortunate common view is "therapy is for crazy people."  Therapy is for anyone who has attempted to deal with their problem themself and has not found a healthy resolution.  Everyone goes through challenging times in their lives and seeking outside help is noble because it shows that you sincerely care about investing into your future.

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out additional support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be respected.   Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to overcome whatever challenges you encounter. If you are looking to improve your life and you are willing to take responsibility and work towards change, then therapy is right for you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and therapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter.

However, state law requires therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following
situations:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse.  The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person.  The therapist is required to notify the police.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself.  The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety.

How do I schedule an appointment? What days and times do you schedule appointments?

To schedule an appointment please call or text Anne at 601-941-7171 and leave message.  She will return your call within 24 hours during normal business days/hours.  She schedules appointments Monday-Thursday.  Please send e-mail to anne@madisoncounseling.org or call the number above to check for exact times available each week.   Online scheduling and cancellations are available for active clients.

Do you take insurance? What are your fees?

Yes. Anne is a network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance company. If you have another insurance carrier she will be happy to provide paperwork for you to self-file your claim.  The fee per session will depend on your co-pay and deductible.   All new clients are advised to contact their insurance company prior to their first therapy session to get exact benefits in regards to seeing a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Please contact Anne for self pay rates as they vary depending on the service provided. However, Anne offers scholarships for clients who are having financial difficulties on a very limited basis.

How long are sessions? How many sessions will I need?

Sessions last 50-60 minutes and it is most beneficial for the client to have one session a week.  Brief therapy lasts 8-10 sessions.  Some problems take longer to address, and some can be remedied in a shorter period of time.  Frequency of visits and number of sessions can be discussed during the initial assessment.

Do you see children for therapy?

Yes.  Anne sees children ages 14 and up.  However, if you have a child younger than 14 that needs therapy she will be happy to refer you to a trusted colleague in her group practice that specializes in counseling with children.
